A Place to Start

Control is not the cure when fear is the plague
A self-perpetuating cycle designed to keep us vague
Like a plaster for an artery gushing blood in scarlet streams
The masks we hide behind won’t mute the mounting screams

Dividing into factions won’t make the world a safer place
Community is key to live and grow in grace
Enemies to friends could help us learn a thing or two
Perhaps it’s not all black and white, we all have work to do

But compassion seems a good bet for where we want to be
Perspective over othering, we’re all humanity
Our souls bear the weight of choices, layered heavy on our heart
A smile to those you disagree with, seems like a place to start.

No problem can be solved from the same level of consciousness that created it

Albert Einstein

I found this poem sitting in an ‘unpublished’ folder on my hard drive, but I thought it sat nicely with my Friday post, where I pondered how things could be different if we strengthened our connection to each other and the world. As you read this I’ll be settling into my writing retreat in (hopefully) sunny South Wales. Sending you all the good vibes, catch up with you in a couple of weeks.

  1. “Perspective over othering, we’re all humanity.” Nailed it! Why is it so hard for our burning world to get this? Seems so many of us do… but none of our leaders. Big sigh. Can start with ourselves and hope the tide of consciousness turns the world stage.
Thanks lovely for engendering deep and vital thoughts. Happy retreating and can’t wait to hear from you again soon!😘
