There was a reluctant shaman, an elephant was her guide She tried her best to deny it, but elephants are hard to hide A trunk would tap her on the shoulder when she was in the shower with the solution to a problem she’d been working on for hours A soft trumpet in the half light, drifting between wake and sleep would remind her of all she needs to let go, and all she’s destined to keep Reassuring footfalls behind her, when she’s a long way from home remind her nature’s a constant companion and she need never be alone Big ears are there to listen, when heaviness weighs her down A circus act on a balancing ball chases away her frown When she could ignore its existence no longer, she looked the elephant straight in the eye All at once a collision of unity stole her breath in a rapturous cry Now the two tread the path side by side, hand in trunk and four feet by two The shaman, reluctant no longer, comes home to the whole of her self that is true

Thanks for joining me for another Sunday rhyme time. This rhyme was inspired by a wonderful YA fiction book I’m reading, The Song that Sings Us. Whilst it is fiction, it seems to hold many elements of truth, and invites much reflection on our relationship to the natural world. What are you reading at the moment?
I’m reading Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. It’s fabulous but not light reading! Much to ponder and savour. Also, I belong to a nature-connection shaman’s group called Way of the Buzzard. Synchronicity, Rae!

That’s so cool! I love the shaman synchronicity! I’m reading that book too! When I say reading it…I’ve been reading it for around a year, it is definitely not light reading! I pick it up and put it down, but it’s truly fascinating. When I finish it I’ll read it again as I think there are many layers to discover.

A charming story. We all need friends. I’m between books right now. It’s August, it’s hot, I’m drained, and reading seems like too much. That sounds more pathetic than I meant it to.
